| MSW/MSI Dual Degree |
[29 Sep 2011|11:28pm] |
This is a bit of a stretch (do people even check LJ anymore?), but I wanted to ask if any members of this community are pursuing the MSW/MSI dual degree program (Master's of Social Work/Master's of Information). I am a recent grad, unemployed, looking into grad school, blah blah blah. This option sounds appealing to me for a multitude of reasons, but I digress. If you or someone you know is familiar with the MSW/MSI degree (or even one or the other), I would love to talk via LJ/email/over a coffee at Espresso Royale, if possible!
Thanks.

[25 Apr 2011|03:04pm] |
I'm starting at Michigan this fall, and I'm wondering if there is a website that locals use that lists all the weeks events.
Does anyone know anything about the neighborhood where Hill and Church intersect? That's where I'll be living next year (in the ECIR) and I will not be visiting until I move in.

[05 Aug 2010|04:52pm] |
Hi,
My friend is taking a creative writing tutorial with Lolita Hernandez in the fall and was wondering what her grading is like. Do any of you happen to know if she is a tough grader? What are your experiences/have heard about her?
Thanks!

Amazon is offering a free 1 year subscription to Amazon Prime (Free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping): http://amzn.to/bSH8jP
This is being marketed towards college students but all you need is a valid .edu email address, so teachers and alumni can benefit from this too!
Now is a time that I wish I was still in college. Oh well, what can you do?

| WOMENSTD 100 |
[16 Jul 2010|12:57am] |
Has anyone taken the class Women's Studies 100 - Gender and Women's Lives in U.S. Society? I'm going to be a senior in the fall, so I'm a little leery about taking a 100 course, but I've never taken a class in Women's Studies, and this sounds interesting. It's taught by Jane Hassinger, so any opinions on her would also be useful in my decision making process (although it says that student facilitators will lead the discussions...).
Thanks, guys.

| against me! tickets?? |
[21 Apr 2010|11:15am] |
hey y'all ~
this may be a loonnggg shot in the dark, but i'm slightly desperate. my ex-girlfriend and i were going to go see against me! at the blind pig on thursday; i was (apparently falsely) under the impression that i could just wander down there on thursday morning after i get to town and pick up some tickets. they are SOLD OUT! terrible!!
i won't regale you people with relationship stories, but... let's just say it would mean a LOT to the two of us if we were able to go; we fell in love several years ago, at an against me show in asheville, nc (aww punk rock love? kind of, but much more to the story!)
anyone who could possibly help us out, please respond... i'm willing to pay $20-25/ticket. k thanks, y'all!

Hey everyone...On Monday, April 12th, I lost a blue U of M lanyard with 2 keys on it somewhere on central campus. I was on State St, E. William, in the diag, in East Quad, and in the MLB...I think I probably lost them between the MLB and State St, but I'm not sure. Please let me know if you've seen or have them. Thanks!

| When to look for housing |
[22 Mar 2010|11:48am] |
Hi everyone,
I'm going to be a grad student this fall and am looking to live in Kerrytown. I live in Chicago, so I'm fairly flexible about when I can start looking for apartments. When is a good time to start looking for apartments? When would be considered too late (all the good stuff snapped up, expensive, etc)?
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for leasing agents/companies that can take me around?
Thanks!

Any opinions out there on the class Graphic Imaging for Non-Majors? I'm in LSA and besides occasionally messing around on Photoshop, have no graphic design experience. Also, does anyone know what the building acronym A&AB is? That's where the class is being held. Thanks in advance!

| Meditation. |
[11 Mar 2010|02:14pm] |
Hello!
So there is this lovely course offered in the Jazz school "Creativity and Consciousness", which is basically a meditation course. I really want to take it next term, but unfortunately there would be a time conflict. Plus it has only 20 seats and since I am an LSA student, I might not get into it anyway.
So my question is: Do you know of any other similar meditation-related courses offered for credit?
Thanks! x

| Off-campus housing |
[22 Feb 2010|09:50am] |
Hi everyone! My husband and I are planning on moving to Michigan in July. He'll be working at UofM and I'd like to take classes at WCC, so we'd like to find a place near both schools. I've never been to Michigan before so I'm not sure what areas to look into. And since I've never been to Michigan before, I have a ton of questions that I'd really appreciate your help on:
1) Are there any specific areas of town (or any other cities) you can recommend near UofM and WCC? We're looking for a 2-bedroom apartment in a quiet building (away from frat houses and undergraduate party buildings).
2) I'm finding tons of listings on craigslist for apartments in Ypsilanti (on Golfside Road and Glencoe Hills). Is that a good area?
3) Do 2-bedroom apartments typically come with two parking spaces? Sorry if that sounds dumb, but parking is crazy in Los Angeles and it's difficult to find a place here that comes with more than one parking spot.
4) How much do you typically pay for heat each month during winter? And how much do you typically pay for leaving the air conditioning on in the hotter months? Haha, could it be any more obvious that I'm from California?
Thanks in advance for any ideas/recommendations!!

| Spring Financial Aid |
[02 Jan 2010|07:56pm] |
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with getting financial aid in the spring or summer semesters? I just received a pell grant and some other grants this semester covering for my tuition, books and some for housing.
Before I sign a lease/sublease for a house, I was curious if/when I apply for financial aid for the spring and summer semesters if my aid would be similar to this semester. Should I be spending my refund for 8 months of living or just 4 months?
Thanks.

| Anyone take ENGLISH/SAC 331: Musicals? |
[21 Dec 2009|02:48pm] |
|
I am not going to get my hopes up too high here, because I know everyone is crazy busy with finals and/or the holidays, but has anyone taken English/SAC 331? I had to miss quite a few lectures and every time I actually made it all Bauland seemed to do was tell stories, so I'm at a loss as to what the final exam is going to look like. Any help would be much appreciated! Hope everyone is having a great last week of classes (or enjoying break if you're lucky enough to be done already) :D

I was wondering if anyone wanted to procrastinate their finals studying by telling me how the study rooms at the Ross School of Business work. I heard they had an online reservation system, so I was wondering what people's experiences with it were. It's such fancy pants technology!
Thanks!

| Host a fun & free girls night with lots of free rewards! |
[04 Dec 2009|06:48pm] |
Hey everyone! My name's Toni and I'm from Dearborn. I'm a PartyLite consultant and wanted to inform you about a fun and free girls night with lots of rewards for you. We have CRAZY deals for January, so I wanted to let everyone know so they can take advantage of them.
PartyLite is a company that sells candles, candle holders, home decoration, flameless fragrances, bath and body products, and much more. We also have special products for weddings, special occasions, and fundraisers. Hosting a PartyLite party is very simple and earns you TONS of free stuff! All it takes is an hour out of your time. I can come by whenever is best for you. The party will only last about an hour. An hour is worth all the free stuff you get! Don't even worry about the invites- I'll send out the invites via email or through the mail for you. I'll bring snacks as well. :) Anyways, onto the hostess deals!
I'm currently booking shows after December 18th or shows in January.
December shows hostess rewards include 25% hostess credit, 5 dozen votive candles for $15, and tons more specials including many gifts under $5.
The real place to save money is January though. In January we're running a HUGE special for FIFTY PERCENT hostess credit for only $15!!!!!! What this means is that for $15, you get 50% of the total of your party in product. For example, an average party with ten people sells $400. That means you'd get $200 in product for $15!!!!!! You choose the products you'd like. You can't beat it! We also have 10 dozen tealight candles for $10 in January, and many other specials I can tell you about if you are interested. We also will have the 2010 items available starting December 16th. They aren't up on the website yet, but they are gorgeous! You can check out some examples of our products on our website though. www.partylite.com.
My email address is: Tonijmccann@aol.com. If you have any questions or are interested in a fun, free girls night with lots of great rewards, let me know!
I also have a friend who sells Mary Kay cosmetics, and so we could do a joint Mary Kay and PartyLite party if you are interested in that as well!
Also- if you're looking for a great job where you create your own hours, ask me about becoming a consultant!

| psych majors! |
[03 Dec 2009|03:45pm] |
Hello trusty UM students!
Have any of you taken cognitive psychology (or any other class) with James Hoeffner? I heard the other professor for cognitive is good but I can't take his section, so any of you know much about this one?
Also, are there any GSI's for either cognitive psych or psychopathology you would absolutely nottt recommend?
Also, do any of you know if Seifert has previously offered the Psychology of Creativity? I REALLY want to take this class but all of the sections are already closing. I e-mailed her but she hasn't gotten back to me, too.
THANK YOUUUU! x

| Question about Angell at night |
[24 Nov 2009|01:46pm] |
|
I have to turn in two papers that are due early tomorrow at my professor's offices. Rather than waking up at the crack of dawn because of my horrible procrastination, I was hoping I could drop them off late tonight after I finish them instead. Does anyone know if the door (I heard it has a poster of a puppy on it) leading to the staff offices on the fourth floor of Angell are locked after a certain time? Thanks in advance guys!

| "Origin of Species" copies w/ free 50 pages of toilet paper |
[18 Nov 2009|11:42pm] |
Has anyone actually seen someone handing out copies? U-M is apparently one of the schools being targeted by their campaign (a campaign to circulate copies of The Origin of Species with Ray Comfort's introduction).
FYI, I haven't read the introduction yet - don't know how bad it is, only heard about it. I'm out in Kalamazoo right now until December, far away from campus and all of the superfun activity there... so I'm just wondering if anyone's seen it being handed out. Just curious!
The National Center for Science Education has put together a campaign to counter-campaign which might be helpful for those who were interested.
EDIT: If you don't know what it is, it's a copy of the Origin of Species with a creationist/intelligent design introduction by Ray Comfort, which would be kinda like having Richard Dawkins writing an intro to the bible, but dumber.

| Bumper stickers! |
[11 Nov 2009|02:27pm] |
Hey guys,
would any of you have any extra bumper stickers lying around? Good causes, bad causes, bands, witty slogans...whatever you've got! They also don't need to be full sized stickers--they'll be going on a friend's bike to pretty it up. So maybe if your band/cause/group needs some extra publicity, this would be a lovely bit of marketing. (Right? Right.) I am willing to pay on a sliding scale based on how awesome the stickers are, or bake you cookies, or however you'd prefer. Comment here, or email me: racrosli@umich.edu. Thanks so much!

Face-Painting on the Diag!
Come get your face painted for free this Thursday on the Diag from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.!
Why? Because this type of merriment is not limited to the 10 and under crowd, despite your strongest beliefs. Your bare faces need colorful paint on them, and the members of the Lloyd Hall Scholars Program's Public Art Club recognize this and are ready to act. So, leave the pride and bring your cheeks!

| Department of Communication Studies... |
[14 Oct 2009|03:08pm] |
I know there have been posts asking about the Communications department/major in the past, but the ones I've found were from almost 3 years ago, and I'm hearing that things have changed. I'm pretty sure that I want to major in Comm, and I'm not a mindless sorority girl, I promise. I'm very interested in the major and what it explores, and I know that U of M's department is nationally ranked and recognized. So, tell me. What's the Communications department like these days? Please, seriously. I had no idea that it even used to be less-than-perfect in past years before I browsed around here, so I'd like to know. Thanks.

Hello Michigan!
I am an undergrad going to check out the Masters in Public Health program at U Mich this weekened. I am from New Mexico, and have never ventured into the state of Michigan, so I have a few questions.
First, what is the best way to get from the Detroit airport to Ann Arbor (my flight gets in around 8 pm, need to be on campus by 8 am Saturday).
Second, I am training for a marathon and Sundays are my long runs, so I was wondering if anyone wants to join me for a 10 miler Sunday morning.

I've googled all over and can't find anything--
I want a waffle iron that makes the block M like they have in the dorms. Is it possible to buy one anywhere? I live in Seattle so someplace online is probably the best bet for me. Maybe somebody could swipe one from a dorm and mail it to me?
thanks!

| Quick Question... |
[14 Sep 2009|10:35pm] |

I've been having a lot of shoulder and neck pain lately. Is there anyplace on campus or around town that offers (reasonably priced) massages? Or is there something similar at UHS? Because if there's something at UHS then I don't have to pay for it, and this poor college student would love that! Thanks!

| McKinley properties? |
[24 Aug 2009|10:36pm] |
Hey,
I looked through the memories and did some googling, but didn't get anything as conclusive as I would have liked. How is McKinley? My boyfriend and I are planning on signing a lease with them tomorrow at their Medical Center Complex on Maiden Lane. The apartment looked pretty nice, and was far cleaner than any of the places in the student ghettos that we've looked at.
The few results that did turn up on google seemed pretty negative (car jackings, theft; evidently Maiden Lane is Ann Arbor's vehicular crime den?) ... can anyone give me any other input/reassure me that my car is not going to be vandalized? I currently live in a mold-filled shithole maintained by Dale Newman (the front stair evidently also just broke), so we're thinking that at least it's better than here, but now I'm kind of nervous.
Thanks!
